Welcome to the first post of “I Do What I Want”! This is my new series where every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month I’ll be posting an mp3 and/or video of whatever musical projects tickle my fancy. Each month will have a loose theme so if you have suggestions, let me know.

June 2015 – Synthpop for Summer! (aka fun with the iPad)

After having a clunky HP Touchpad I barely used for a few years, a couple months ago I gave in and bought an iPad and I’ve been having a great time experimenting with it. As a challenge (and also a way to teach myself how to use it), I recorded a couple cover songs entirely on the iPad with GarageBand. In addition to all instruments and effects being created and edited in GarageBand, all vocals were recorded with the basic Apple factory earbuds/headset. I was a bit skeptical when I started, but I’m really happy with how the songs turned out.

Other than the method, the theme for this month is Synthpop for Summer because what can I say, I’m a sucker for handclaps and cool synth bass lines. So here’s my cover of “My Love is Real” by Divine Fits. It’s a great song that I’ve loved (and had stuck in my head often) since the first time I heard it a few years ago.

Hope you enjoy it! Feel free to leave comments and definitely check back on June 25th for my version of “Pompeii” by Bastille.
